Teaching Academy

Uplift’s Teaching Academy is a Career Technical Education (CTE) program that provides high school students with coursework and hands-on experience to be prepared to go to college and become a teacher.   With our Teaching Academy Pathway, students have the opportunity to earn an Associate of Arts in Teaching in Secondary or Elementary Education  with Truman College and then continue on to earn their Bachelor's degree at a college or university.

This program may begin sophomore year and includes the opportunity for dual enrollment college courses through City Colleges of Chicago (primarily) Truman College  Through a series of courses,  which will include teaching and learning, child development, philosophy of education and educational psychology, as well as practical experience, Teaching Academy students work directly with our MTSS team, our Restorative Justice Culture Practitioner, Parrish Brown Jr,  and neighboring elementary schools to engage in tutoring and teaching opportunities.

Our Teaching Academy is creating a state of the art classroom with resources and technology to prepare our students to become teaching the future of education.

We remind our students that "Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions" (- Unknown) and through this program they will gain the knowledge, skill, experience, and support to enter into the field of education.
